Music has always been a huge part of my life. Thanks to BJ Mette for installing that love of music. Most don’t understand the camaraderie that playing in a band affords and the sheer fun that band is. Those who do experience real friendship, make real memories, and experience the joy that is making music. It has been a few years since my time at FHS, but I’m still involved in music – as are my children. I direct a handbell choir, play in the community band when I can, and enjoy ringing handbells in my church choir. My oldest plays tenor sax in the VMI Jazz Band. My youngest is an accomplished trumpet player and orchestra director who intends to play that trumpet at college next year… And to think it all started with a flute lesson in the Shawsheen School cafeteria! Music opens doors, makes learning fun, and expands horizons… Thank you, BJM!

Some of the best memories from my high school years come from the music room–band, jazz band, chorus, show chorus–they all gave me that sense of belonging that is so very important. Then, of course, there’s always the comic relief of band camp, Saturday morning marching band, bus rides to away games, etc., Thanks to Ms. Mette for an amazing experience!
